Maggie's Meatballs

Maggie's birthday was in February, which is when I should have posted this, but oh well. Hard to believe my sweet little beagle mix is 14 years old. It's also hard to believe that back in October I was filling out a 'do not resuscitate' form for her. She had bloat, and her stomach twisted. I couldn't imagine not having the vet perform the surgery, though. And thank goodness for credit cards! She obviously is doing fine, although I was scared she was never going to eat again! Of course, she didn't feel like eating after all that, she just needed time to recover, but I was still freaking out a little bit. Her weight has slowly declined over the years, and it took a big drop then. I'm so glad I found this recipe for Satin Balls online. It does a great job of putting weight on her. There are recipes starting out with 5 lbs of ground beef and then freezing, but I like making just a pound at a time and rolling 8 meatballs. In the beginning, she got 2 or 3 a day, but now it's just one as a treat at dinner. She wishes she could have more - she loves her meatballs!

1 lb ground beef
1 1/3 cups of Total cereal
1 1/2 cups oats
1 egg
6 tbs wheat germ
1 pkg gelatin
2 tbs oil
2 tbs molasses
garlic powder

I can't believe she's 14 either! I remember when you brought her home from the pound and she was all ears. Now she's all legs!

can't recall how I found your blog this evening but just wanted to say congrats on your marriage - beautiful bride you were. so sorry your DH got rid of his bike. I know my DH misses all 4 of the bikes he had to sell for one reason or another (esp the last one which was his favorite-Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad) Your dog is a sweetie; so glad she is doing well. We had to put our 13yr old dog Shelby to sleep on my birthday in June this year - so seeing your sweet dog is bringing back a lot of memories I hold dear. I miss seeing her lay on her doggie bed and following us around the house. You have a cool, interesting blog!
